Marijuana
There are a variety of concerns that an employer may have regarding marijuana and how it may affect the workplace. Legalization efforts across the country have led to increased usage by persons who may not know fully about pot’s detrimental effects to their health and safety as well as that of their family, friends, or co-workers; or they choose to ignore the warnings.
Studies have shown that marijuana, like other illicit drugs and alcohol, adversely impacts the workplace, even when employees limit their abuse of the drug to their off-work hours. Employers can positively affect this problem by having a well-written drug-free workplace policy, along with education and drug-testing, that is consistently promoted and fairly applied in accordance with the laws of the state.
